And... it is complete!

Sword of Frost... well, what can I say?

1. Mostly a huge disappointment. It was the easiest Chronicles game they released, or maybe 2nd easiest to Masters of the Elements, and even though I did enjoy the story a bit, it could've been so much more...

For instance, we see Tarnum enjoying being a tyrant again, or "almost enjoying"... in a single event. It's never mentioned again. Why?

2. The final mission provides only a few events as the map is tiny. Were they on the verge of bankrupcy by then? it certainly feels lame.

3. Nearly no Gelu-Tarnum interaction. And since I got Orb of Inhibition from a warrior's crypt right after I started the final mission, Gelu couldn't even armageddon me.

4. EASY. Oh God, it was sooo easy. "Impossible" felt more like "Very Easy". I don't even know where to start - giving you Azure Dragon freebies each mission? You know, you may pretty much tick "Quick Combat" and never let go... Town portal happens in 2nd mission already, and it's just a curbstomp. The AI is outmatched, sometimes gets 1-2 Crystal Dragon freebies and that's it... level 1 heroes with regular armies.. against 60 ATT Tarnum with Azures. Great missionmaking skills, 3DO... sigh

5. It was the last Chronicles game, so I kinda expected an outro. A proper one. Not rehashed Armageddon's blade mission screen with a very short and uninspiried final entry. They could do an intro in Warlords of the Wastelands, but they couldn't do an outro for Sword of Frost, sigh.

Again 3.5/10 at best.

This concludes the 3-year old journey with Heroes Chronicles. It was mostly fun, but often disappointing. Expect a big thread about whole HoMM3 playthrough, since it was merely a part of it.

It was still worth it, anyway, but I guess the whole series could be considered a cash-grab in the end, for people who bought those games when they were released.

You are too good for your own good But yeah, the chronicles difficulty fluctuates so much between pushover and actually hard. In the first mission where you face Gelu I defeated him on day 2 lol. What was that even about ^^

I did not mind the lack of interaction with Gelu, he never was the most talkative or multidimensional guy. I liked the discussions with Ufretin and the backstabbing dungeon fun times.

The ending was such a pile of pegasi manure. I was also hoping we'd get an awesome sword of frost artifact but I guess it's too silly to expect that from a game titled the sword of frost. Well, onwards to the next goal!

The "Beholder advisors" were definitively the high point of the campaign. Fun, not nearly as awesome as the Barbarian Familiar on a pony, but pretty cool.

It feels as if nobody playtested this before.

Also, like we discussed earlier, there's one last thing to add: after all those games and hours spent on Tarnum storyline, your ending is a poorly voiceacted KIJA!!!!!. Yeah, that's it. They should make a t-shirt out of that. If this game was released in modern times, it would become a meme instantly.

I have a hard time with Chronicles campaigns.

I am playing Chronicles now. Warlords of the Wasteland was sometimes easy and sometimes hard but I feel as it is mostly depends on what you get as skills. Now I am not a expert at Homm 3 so I need some help from time to time. Warlords of the Wasteland's last mission was more difficult compared to the other maps because I was lacking in some important skills.

How do I get better at this game? Just play it or can I get some tips? When I read your post where you say it is easy. I am not seeing it hehe

Well in mission 5 and mission 6 there is chance to get both wisdom and earth magic. Mission 8 is not difficult, if you manage to hold tower and castle towns in middle part of map. Plus I recommend only using Angels and Titans on Tarnum, while rest troops are good to defend towns and scare of ai heroes. I found that 2 years ago, that on level 16 pop up for Tarnum Earth Magic. What i used for Tarnum:

Off, Archery, Armorer, Logistics, Pathfinding, Tactics/Ballistics, Wisdom and Earth. I recommend using secondary heroes like Dessa, Gundula and Gurnisson until Tarnum learn Wisdom + Earth. if you someway battle mage learn scholar, Tarnum will be able to learn level 4 spells from them.

I highly recommend watching YouTube to get better at the game. Watch some singleplayer playthroughs by AbsoluteZero. He's a very good player and provides good commentary along with it. At the top of all this I believe he recently played through some of the Chronicles as well.

Thanx I will check it out. I watched Theknownworld and Meridian aswell and learned alot. But sometimes I struggle with what to do at certain times. Whether I should go for gold or creature dwellings or build up my army or attack other towns fast. Of course I dont know all kinds of tactics there is.

This may be an unpopular opinion, but watching and copying other people will never make you a truly good player.

You need to be able to reach those conclusions yourself.

There are games where this doesn't apply though (mostly fighting games, since they are built around frame data and there is 0 need for a player to analyze that by himself).

Strategy games tho? Uhhh.

I strongly advocate to just learn as you play.

It does come in handy in real life since it trains you in problem solving.

Conquest of the Underworld and Masters of the Elements are my personal faves to play. Warlords of the Wasteland had the best story though.

Clash of the Dragons and Revolt of the Beastmasters are okay, The Sword of Frost and World Tree+Fiery Moon I didn't like that much

Theres not a lot of concept art. We have some sketches by Almond but its the same like in game. Second is only alternative beastmaster screen.

Unfortunately, I've already seen these, but thank you very much for your help. I tried to dig deep, but I couldn't find much. Perhaps my only interesting catch this.

Oh yes! Nice. But unfortunetly its only clean main screen. Chronicles was a small cost low budget realisation. So has small unused concepts. You can look at movies too using Radvideotool. You can make screens from each frame. And some content from ingame resources. HCH has very good graphic art. Not a lot but very clinmatic. But the best is storyline! Real epic masterpieces!

I agree, that's why I tried to search. I didn't find many results either, but I'm not giving up. I will try this Rad video tools, what you write about it is interesting. I agree, the story is fascinating, Tarnum is a fantastic character. This is the last menu screen I could find and is the artist's work without the subtitle.
