From memory unless you read next weeks TV Guide there was very little in way of spoilers
Nowadays you can almost read the scripts
So with these spoilers everywhere
Rather than attracting viewers people switch off ?

Probably depends on the person but for me I think it probably does contribute to my declining viewership. I'll sometimes look at spoilers and then skip the episode and do something else since there's no suspense for me. For example, I clicked on the spoiler for tonight's EE episode and instead of saying something like "What is Nadine hiding?", it literally spells out exactly what her secret is.
I'm not complaining since it was my choice to click the spoiler but if the option to have it spoiled wasn't available to me or if it was just a tease that there was something wasn't what it seemed, I'd be more inclined to tune in. To be fair to EE the lead up to the Six kept me tuning in since they were able to keep it under wraps but it looks like since then they've leaked pretty much everything weeks in advance so there hasn't really been anything to keep me hooked and tuning in for consecutive episodes when I already have the gist of what's going to happen

Tbh I think it's the fact we're not living in an era of just 5 channels anymore.

I like the spoilers. It's good to know what's coming up and even better to watch it. I don't understand why someone wouldn't watch just because of a synopsis. There'll be other stuff that they would miss if they didn't watch.

I dont care about spoilers. When it comes to things like soaps, i dont think most people are bothered enough to care about spoilers.
They either watch the soaps in a way which is give or take, so its something nice and easy to pass the time for some light enjoyment, but if they disappeared tomorrow, they would not miss them. Therefore, they dont take the shows seriously enough to be concerned about Spoilers, compared to like if a movie gets spoiled.
Or they dont care about soaps at all, and it has nothing to do with spoilers. More to do with them being a bit a dying form, they arent the big thing in our culture anymore like they used to be.1

Possibly, but it might not necessarily be because people are ruining stories for themselves and more so because they get to see what's upcoming and decide "this sounds terrible, I don't care enough to watch."

I think the main issue is early release. They aren't really spoilers

It certainly does persuade me to think this episode is not worth tuning in for. I say this is a good point.

That's not the issue we only get the episode on the day of broadcast. It's not like weekly box-set lol. Spoilers are everywhere for next week episodes before the early releases. I do agree partly it's to do with spoilers but what others have said there is more choice these days that people can pick from.

With classic emmerdale, classic eastenders and classic coronation st, even though i often recall what happened or if i never its all online to see i still enjoy them and thats down to quality production, acting and writing. Spoilers sure dont stop me watching neighbours. Spoilers maybe put folk off the soaps now like coronation st as folk will know what dross they are getting so switch off

Agree - I have seen a few spoilers (or future storylines) for Corrie and will not bother to watch for a few weeks

I don't mind the teasy stuff
But sometimes i feel like having too much is just...too much
But then its fairly hard for them to market without revealing what's actually happening

Too much sensationalismSpot on. These days they just can't wait to get the content out there for fear of other soaps trying to outdo them first. Compared to the classic episodes, when the writing was better and they were slower paced and the storylines much more grounded, soaps can be exhausting to watch now with one sensationalist story after another. Spoilers have become run of the mill. Viewers know what's going to happen long before it happens so they might think it's not worth watching.

It's the Corrie spoilers that I find excessive. The ones on DS read like short stories. Maybe it's because it's essentially two episodes rolled into one but I still think that the huge wall of text that they release is too much. The other soaps are not as bad in comparison. EastEnders often seems to have unspoiled twists.

Yes just this week we didn't know that Honey would propose to Billy, that Sonia was pregnant or that Nadine had faked her pregnancy.

Im Sure its Emmerdale
Where they announce about 6 months in advance
Belle learns about Tom
Young Arthur has to tell everyone his secretMaybe not quite like that
But doesnt take mastermind to work it out whats happeningIts almost like they are begging viewers to watch
